Today is our last day in Oklahoma and halfway through this wonderful epic ride. We started our day in Claremore, OK and ended 70 miles North East in Miami, OK. In between these two points was an abundance of sights, experiences, people, and thoughts of life in small town America. Today is Sunday and coming from a mega metropolitan area such as the San Francisco Bay Area I'm used to the fast pace of weekend days, the hustle and bustle of the cities, and the hurried people racing from one thing to another. I can tell you seeing life on the road at 12 mph gives a person a good perspective into life in the heartland of America. To sum it up quickly life is much slower and the people we have come across seem happy and content in their small towns.
We have been traveling in the North East section of the state the last couple of days and the farms have given way from wheat fields to cattle and horse ranches. The cattle are very skittish and aware of us riding by with their ears perked up watching our every move as if they have never seen our type before. The farm houses have caught my attention and made me realize that families can live in small houses and use the vast acreage as their backyard play ground. We saw children playing outdoors and waving to us as we road past today, dogs living the life on a farm with room to run. Rural America in the heartland displays a simple joy of life.
