5/11 Carbondale to Harrisburg IL

At breakfast we decided to go to Harrisburg today which is 36 miles by car and 42 miles by bike.  We loaded the car and left Carol to enjoy her shower.  About 10 miles out she called to tell us the car would not start again and she had AAA there to load it onto a truck and haul it to the Ford dealership very close to the hotel.  We decided to stay on Rt 13 and get to Harrisburg as quick as possible.  The reasons for this was to get there with Carol if she needed to rent a car and needed any help, but the main reason was that the humidity was 90+ percent and we wanted to get into air conditionaing asap.

It was a very easy ride arriving there at 1PM so we stopped for lunch in downtown Harrisburg at a little cafe.  We ordered a pitcher of water and open faced roast beef sandwiches.  When we got up to pay the bill the waitress told us that a gentleman who had seen our bags with the Lazarex Foundation cancer charity on them paid for our lunch.  This is about the fourth time this has happened to us and it always is a pleasant surprise. It shows how good people are in all areas of the USA.

We got on the bikes and arrived at the hotel.  Carol had not arrived so we checked in.  I took a nap.  later Carol arrived just before the rain started to let us know that car was not starting since the back window wiper was stuck in an up position causing it to try to go down and thereby draining the battery.  This was good news but it cost us $300 with 3 visits to Ford dealerships to find a simple fix to the problem.

Then, we got ready for the storm and the Warriors game.  What an exciting finish.  Go Warriors,
storm is rolling in
